Galerie Mikael Andersen would like to welcome you to the opening of the exhibition Bell Jar Tourism with new works by Kristian Touborg, Friday 14 November 2014, 5-7 pm.

The exhibition is Kristian Touborg’s first solo show in the gallery and presents a variety of drawings, paintings and video works.

The motifs used in Kristian Touborg’s universe engage with the absurdity and moments of contemplation in the everyday. The extent of Touborg’s references primarily examine people as the focus and expression of our lives; a life that is simultaneously explicit and introverted, sensitive and powerful.

The outcome of the works emphasizes the duality and balance of the subject: between a light stroke and multiple layers of paint and other materials. This results in a powerful expression combining play with colour and form. Touborg reworks the surface of porous material with many layers which give the works a distinctive tactility and depth. The materials used are often a meeting between the highbrow and the lowbrow, giving the paintings extra depth and space for reflection.

Kristian Touborg was born in 1987. He lives and works in Copenhagen. Touborg studied at the Royal Academy of Art’s School for Design. In 2013 he won the Artist’s Autumn Exhibition with the video work (im)permanence
