Galerie Mikael Andersen welcomes you to the opening of Elisabeth Toubro's solo exhibition – No One Creates Alone RECYCLING_CYBORGS on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 5 PM to 7 PM, featuring new sculptures.

Toubro's exhibition is rooted in both the past and the future. "No one creates alone" is a quote from the artist Sonja Ferlov Mancoba (1911-1984), while "cyborgs" refers to a fusion of human, animal, and machine, often a concept associated with the future. However, the future is not so distant.

In Toubro's interpretation, the cyborg embodies the idea of the human being as connected to both the past and the future, as well as to the rest of the planet. Understanding man as a connected being comes with a reevaluation of the human species as the center of the planet.

The works in Toubro's exhibition are a blend of various materials and forms. They are not pure in their expression; they are both organic, industrial, and technological, with references in multiple directions.

Several of the exhibition's sculptures directly reference forms from Ferlov Mancoba's works, although this might not be immediately evident. These sculptures also incorporate other forms, as well as found objects and text. In the sculpture Recycling_Cyborg with a pacemaker there are references to animals, humans, and modern technology, intertwining the sculpture with the past, present, and future.

Ferlov Mancoba was one of Denmark's most significant modernist artists, believing in the possibility of human reconciliation across social and ethnic boundaries. Today, humanity faces challenges not only within its own race but also in rethinking its relationship with the physical world. Planet Earth is a cosmos of bacteria, fungi, animals, humans, and machines. It is constantly necessary to reconsider and redefine our role among various categories, for better or worse. This also includes looking back and connecting with past thoughts, which often can inspire us more than we realize.
