In connection with Copenhagen Art Week 2017 Galerie Mikael Andersen presents a selection of works from the gallery’s collection. In an accrochage containing both paintings, ceramics, bronze sculptures and drawings, the exhibition shows works of international excellence by artists who are, and have been, of great significance to the gallery.

Martin Kippenberger’s table and chair, Günther Förg’s pigment paintings and painted vases, and Bernd Koberling’s abstract nature study hang side by side with brand new works by Tom Anholt and Fritz Bornstück, where the viewer is met with fairy tale like scenarios and grotesque-humorous tableaus.

The smooth, playful shapes of Kathrine Ærtebjerg’s large scale painting stand in contrast to Lucy Teasdale’s dynamic bronze sculptures; yet the two artists’ works meet in their shared organic visual language. This motif continues with the stunning works of Sonja Ferlov Mancoba and Ernest Mancoba. Sonja Ferlov’s two sculptures both use the mask as a central theme while Ernest Mancoba’s almost calligraphic works on paper unfold as fundamental portrayals of the human condition through figurative motifs and alphabet like compositions.

The show is thus a cross section of Galerie Mikael Andersen and mixes a variety of artistic approaches, establishing new dialogues between distinct and accomplished practices.
