Galerie Mikael Andersen is pleased to welcome you to the opening of the exhibition Togetherness containing works by Lin Utzon, Malene Birger and Bertel Bjerre, Saturday 10 December 2022, 13:00 – 16:00. The exhibition is curated by Erik Rimmer.

The exhibition Togetherness can be seen as a free, artistic unfolding across the three invited artist’s close friendship.
Lin Utzon, Malene Birger and Bertel Bjerre are all drawing from their individual experiences from art, ceramic, porcelain, fashion, interior, and design industries. The exhibition therefore includes the materials ceramic, porcelain and works on paper. Through a common thread being that they all explore a playful approach to the possibilities but also limits of such materials.

Lin Utzon was born in Denmark and is formally trained in Sydney, Australia and Denmark. She has worked internationally with various medias such as porcelain, granite, tile, concrete, wood, varnish, metal, and glass. She has made commissions for public and private institutions and for exhibitions. Further she has made design works for Rosendahl and Royal Copenhagen and scenography and costumes for The Royal Ballet, New Danish Dance Theater and Copenhagen Summer Ballet Festival.
Utzon works with oil on canvas, paper and gouache and ink on paper. She has worked in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France, Switzerland, Spain, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, China, Mexico, USA, and Greenland. Lin Utzon lives in Mallorca.

Malene Birger graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Design in 1989. She works at the present time primarily as an artist and with interior projects. She managed to establish her name internationally through her work within the fashion industry; founding two of the most successful fashion houses: Day Birger ét Mikkelsen and By Malene Birger. At the exhibition at Galerie Mikael Andersen, Malene Birger will present collages and large vases with a focus on the handles. Her aesthetics are often inspired by African culture, textiles, and the universe in general, expressing its contrast in the form of light and dark. Malene Birger lives and works in Mallorca.

Bertel Bjerre was originally trained as a craftsman/designer from the School of Applied Arts in Copenhagen. Over the years and after a longer period and study in Pientrasanta in northern Italy, he developed and worked with sculpture and later with painting.
Bertel Bjerre lives and works in Vejby in the northern part of Zealand with direct access to Kattegat where nature with its horizon lines, constant changes in weather, light and seasons are a great source of inspiration. He works primarily with clay and acrylic on paper and his artistic approach bridges between design and nature.
