Galerie Mikael Andersen would like to welcome you to the opening of You are me, I am you, an exhibition featuring new works by Kathrine Ærtebjerg together with a sculpture by Sophia Kalkau, on Thursday 7 April 2022, 17:00 – 19:00. In the exhibition You are me, I am you the artist shows new paintings, watercolors, monotypes, and sculptures. The experience of the exhibition is colored by the sound piece Self Worth. The lyrics of the sound piece and its overall mood is melancholic and points to how inner and outer values can be measured up against each other. The sound piece is by the band Lystrophia which the artist forms part of.
The fragile sentiment in the song and music is also recognizable in the other works in the exhibition. They are personal and introverted but also suggest a coherence between the internal and external as well as a connection between the subject and the outside world.
Elements from the outer world have made it into Ærtebjerg’s motives, for example leaves and knives. The elements have been processed and get their new meaning from the psychological and existential layers of the human mind, a place where the physical and psychological are one.
In the exhibition there is a great desire to create present spaces and stories which reach beyond the introverted and engage in a dialogue. This desire is also expressed by inviting Sophia Kalkau to participate with the sculpture Oh no not again, which is an elaboration on the theme but in a different artistic language. Kalkau’s sculpture consist of two parts placed directly on the floor. They are concrete and abstract at the same time. Concrete sizes which pull us into a poetic universe, a psychological tale in a formal language.
The exhibition You are me, I am you carries a quiet wish to give space for vulnerability and to reach out. The exhibition is an investigation of the boundaries of the individual and individual freedom. The works emphasize the connection or entanglement that exist between the inner world, our mutual culture and with each other. For more information on the exhibition and for press photographs please contact the gallery on tel. 33 33 05 12 or email: cph@mikaelandersen.com. The exhibition ends 21 May 2021.
