Works on Paper

Works on Paper
Galerie Mikael Andersen is pleased to present “Works on Paper”, a group exhibition highlighting paper-based works by a selection of the gallery’s artists, opening Thursday March 26, 16:00-18:00.
The exhibition opens with an almost overwhelming work by Mogens Andersen (DK), measuring nearly 3 x 5 meters. Created in 1985, this piece functions as a sketch or preparatory work and reflects Andersen’s lifelong engagement with abstraction. It later formed the basis for “Gobelin, Composition no. 7” woven by Lise Warburg between 1992 and 2000.
Alongside Andersen’s work are richly saturated paper pieces by Sebastian Dacey (DE) and Moshekwa Langa (SA). Like Andersen, both artists engage with an expressive and abstract line. In a quieter, more contemplative register, a series of four works on paper by Günther Förg unfolds with restrained elegance. Förg’s minimalist approach emphasizes structure, balance, and repetition.
The exhibition also features vibrant paper works in colour by Wonga Mancoba (DK/SA). These pulsating compositions evoke the intensity of urban South African life. In several of these works, Mancoba combines fragmented text, mask-like faces, and raw, almost graffiti-like strokes to create an expressive visual language charged with rythm and immediacy.
A more playful and offbeat dialogue emerges in the works of Philip Grözinger (DE) and Tom Anholt (UK). Also on view are the sensuous paper works of Bertel Bjerre (DK), alongside the delicate yet distinctive drawings of Agnete Therkildsen (DK).
