About
Philip Grözinger was born in Braunschweig and currently lives and works in Berlin. From 1989 to 1998, he studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig. Philip Grözinger's works transport the viewer into a world where visual elements and deeper emotional content intertwine. His creative process is a dialogue between form and feeling, where the unspoken is just as significant as the visible. Grözinger’s art explores the fragility of the human condition, the interplay of light and shadow, and the transformation of the everyday into poetic metaphors.
Working across various media—including painting, drawing, film, ceramics, and installations—Grözinger investigates the boundaries between reality and imagination. His works invite the viewer to look at the familiar with fresh eyes, question their own perceptions, and embark on an intense visual journey.
Grözinger has a profound interest in flowers and landscapes, recognizing their rich symbolic significance throughout art history. Growing up in Braunschweig, he often visited museums with his parents, where he was particularly fascinated by 17th-century Dutch painting, especially still-life works depicting flowers. In this artistic tradition, flowers frequently symbolize transience and the passage of time—embodying the concept of vanitas, a reminder of life's fleeting nature and the inevitability of death. In this context, flowers become a metaphor for ephemeral beauty.
