    About

Fritz Bornstück's paintings form orgies of scraps and junk: lightbulbs, matches, bottles, fruit, cables, a mug. Both quiet and busy at the same time, these assemblages are what is left over when the focus is taken elsewhere. Fritz Bornstück's works step out of different traditions to form something new and often ambiguous with contrasting brushstrokes, paint squeezed directly from the tube, and textile swatches creating a dynamic play on the surface. His inventive works – both sombre and humorous – are full of references to popular culture as well as traditions of still life and landscape painting, thus engaging in a formal discussion to produce a dynamic aesthetic friction. Fritz Bornstück was educated at Universität der Künste in Berlin from 2005-2009. He has exhibited at major institutions such as Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin and Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam and his works can be fund in the collection of Arken Museum of Modern Art, Denmark.
