About

Elisabeth Toubro made her breakthrough in the 1980s and has since established herself as a key figure in contemporary Danish sculptural art. Her work is characterized by highly processed surfaces and quite frequently display a certain degree of inaccessibility. Toubro works with the idea of sculpture as essentially surface and her work discusses the core aspects and fundamentals associated with traditional sculpture. This is seen primarily in her choice of transparent materials and her straightforward way of riveting together the planes of the materials. Toubro's sculptures have a strong poetic and narrative element with their many contra- and juxtaposition. Elisabeth Toubro gradutated from Professor Hein Heinsen's department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1986. Toubro received the Eckersberg Medal i 1999 and the Thorvaldsen Medal in 2010.
