About

Lars Tygesen (b. 1979) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. His paintings bring historical motifs, particularly Rococo and Baroque interiors, into a contemporary context through an expressive use of colour, texture and brushwork.

Moving between figuration and abstraction, Tygesen builds his images through layers of paint, balancing carefully composed forms with spontaneity and chance. Alongside historical subjects, he also explores flowers and still life, as seen in his 2025 solo exhibition Flowers at Galerie Mikael Andersen, where the traditional bouquet becomes a starting point for exploring the possibilities of painting.

Tygesen has exhibited at Danish and international institutions, including Heidelberger Kunstverein, Malmö Konsthall, Lillehammer Art Museum and Viborg Kunsthal. He has collaborated with Galerie Mikael Andersen for many years, and his works are represented in the collections of ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art and the New Carlsberg Foundation.
