Sonja Ferlov Mancoba currently on view at Kunstmuseet Brundlund Slot

The Ferlov Mancoba Foundation and Galerie Mikael Andersen is pleased to share that works by Sonja Ferlov Mancoba have been loaned to the exhibition ‘Franciska Clausen og det underste land’ at Kunstmuseet Brundlund Slot.

The exhibition presents surrealism as an artistic method for navigating a fragmented world. Museum Sønderjylland, which holds Denmark’s most significant collection of Danish surrealism, displays key works in dialogue with those of Franciska Clausen. It highlights central figures such as Vilhelm Bjerke-Petersen and Wilhelm Freddie, alongside lesser-known artists like Gustaf Munch-Petersen and Eugène de Sala, while also giving long-overdue attention to Franciska Clausen, Rita Kernn-Larsen, Elsa Thoresen, and Sonja Ferlov Mancoba, whose practices helped shape surrealism’s visual and conceptual language.

The exhibition can be experienced at Kunstmuseet Brundlund Slot, Aabenraa, till 6 September 2027.

Sonja Ferlov Mancoba at Frieze Masters 2025

We are proud to present the work of Sonja Ferlov Mancoba at this year’s Frieze Masters, taking place from October 15–19 in London. The exhibition features 19 sculptures and 8 drawings, showcasing the innovative practice of the Danish avant-garde artist across decades.

Often overlooked in mainstream narratives of modernism, Ferlov Mancoba’s work reflects a lifelong engagement with themes of identity, community, and the human condition. Key pieces, including the commanding figure Confiance, reveal her innovative approach to form, combining influences from non-European art traditions, surrealism, and the CoBrA group.

Sonja Ferlov Mancoba in group exhibition at Bucerius Kunst Forum

The exhibition In Her Hands. Bildhauerinnen Des Surrealismus highlights the rediscovery of three remarkable female artists from the modern era: Sonja Ferlov Mancoba, Maria Martins, and Isabelle Waldberg, each of whom played a unique role in the international Surrealist movement between 1930 and 1960. This exhibition brings together sculptures by these three artists for the first time, offering an immersive experience of their powerful, space-encompassing presence.

The exhibition is on view at the Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg from February 21 to June 1, 2025.
