KRISTIAN DEVANTIER

Kristian Devantier (b.1971) is part of the young generation of painters who in recent years have succeeded in putting a renewed focus on painterly qualities and potentials. The paintings of Kristian Devantier are recognizable by their pictographic, almost naïve, elements. People and things are painted in clearly divided, flat monochromic fields of colour. Apparently easily readable, each of Devantiers paintings tells a narrative of both personal and universal character. The strong, stylized figures in Devantier’s narratives are symbolic but even so, they convey a feeling that they are thoughtful, emotional and potentially capable of taking to action. The faceless personas of Kristian Devantiers paintings are symbols portraying anybody and everybody, thus the viewer is invited to step inside the pictures and take part in their allegorical stories. Stories that are both intimate and individual in character as well as universal and eternally mythological. Kristian Devantier graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 2000.
